DALLAS COWBOYS
The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960 and went on to win two Super Bowl titles in the 1970’s. The team later became a dynasty in the 1990’s, winning three championships in four years, led by three offensive stars known as the Triplets: QB Troy Aikman, RB Emmitt Smith and WR Michael Irvin, all now in the Hall of Fame.
About The team
The Cowboys enjoy huge support across Canada for one main reason: swagger. They called themselves ‘America’s Team’ in their own 1970’s highlight video and the term remains today. They are the NFL‘s equivalent of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens or MLB’s New York Yankees.
Currently, there are 11 Cowboys players and two coaches in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
This year’s team is led by quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Micah Parsons. They play out of the largest stadium in the NFL with a seating capacity around 100,000.
GOING TO DALLAS ?
The city of Dallas is located in northern Texas and, together with Fort Worth, is one of the fastest growing parts of the United States. AT&T Stadium can be found just west of the city in Irving.
Football is part of the culture in Dallas and all of Texas for that matter as depicted in the television series, Friday Night Lights. Entire towns shut down on Fridays as high school football takes centre stage. On Saturdays, college football hits the field with 38 schools in the Dallas area. And the most popular person in the state is always the quarterback of the Cowboys.
Dallas also has teams in every other major professional sport. The MLB’s Rangers moved from Washington, DC in 1972, the NBA’s Mavericks were an expansion team in 1980 and the NHL’s Stars moved from Minnesota in 1993.
When it comes to food, you can find the best Tex Mex restaurants in the world in Dallas. E Bar Tex Mex and Mia’s Tex Mex Restaurant both feature many varieties of enchiladas and tacos.
